This group was formed to help document the history of the U.S. Navy’s PACV Test and Eval program in Viet Nam , 1966-68. Part of that is reconnecting with the Sailors who were there. These craft were a unique part of Naval History. They started life as British-built SRN-5 ( Saunders-Roe, Nautical) hovercraft, then were purchased by the U. S. Navy and shipped to Bell Aero Systems in New York for refitting to American power plant systems. Redesignated as model SK-5, they were known as PACV’s – pronounced “pack-vee” ( Patrol, Air Cushion Vehicle ). There were only 3 Navy PACV’s. These are not to be confused with the later US-built Army ACV’s.
